Case Study of 1980s Citizen Diplomacy

Cynthia has developed a case study on U.S.-Soviet conflict transformation in the 1980s—the emergence of a “Third Side” coalition involving millions of citizens, NGOs,Track II and Track 1.5 diplomacy and lessons for today. Drawing on her personal experience as a citizen diplomat in the 1980s, Cynthia uses film clips and inspiring accounts from political leaders and ordinary people to tell the story of how the conflict between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. was transformed from high risk of nuclear confrontation to unprecedented reductions in our nuclear arsenals.
