How We Got from End of Old Cold War to New Cold War and What to Do Today
BJA Trialogue at podium Oct2018.jpg

Bruce presents a workshop on how US-Russian relations fell from the exhilaration and sense of possibility at the end of the Cold War in the late 1980s to tension and deadlock by 2014.  Using tools from creative negotiation and “Third Side” mediation, he engages participants to discover what we can do today to break out of vicious action-reaction cycles. This approach looks at the “soft” very human, fear-driven psychological elements of the arms build-up while at the same time focusing on hard power politics, seeking to have a productive dialogue on what each side defines as its legitimate national security interests, and how the interests of both sides can be taken into account, in the very real conflicts in Europe, Ukraine, Syria and elsewhere.
